Introducing Jem by iiish X Lucy & Yak

Introducing Jem by iiish X Lucy & Yak

We have an exciting new Limited Edition launching this week - from our very own stylist Sophie Molyneux, also an artist and creator of iiish!
Sophie is known to make squishy and colourful printed solutions for the unnecessary need to make your space into one Dr. Seuss would be proud of and she tours the UK with her amazing colourful installations. Now this colourful goodness is coming your way in a shape of a boilersuit!
Originally iiish started as a fun solution to use all the scraps of fabric. Sophie stuffs all the bean bags with fabric from fashion designers and foam from upholsterers around Brighton helping them to reduce their waste sent to landfill. Every item she sews she also puts the scraps back into the shapes making it a zero waste brand!
Her design for our first ever printed boilersuit was typically blub related and is as colourful as you would imagine, she is continuously inspired by the inside of squishy shapes such as fruit, eggs and earlobes, which she then designs into abstract simple forms, bringing her joyous energy to her designs.
Here is iiish in her own words...

How would you describe your work in 5 words?

Squishy, iiishy, Blubby, Colourful and Fun

Lucy & Yak and you go a long way back?

I have been a fan since the Depop days. I remember trawling through the site everyday waiting for my perfect pair to pop up! I still remember the yellow ones with the two different coloured pockets that I will forever regret not buying! But as soon as the pink ones came up I snatched them up and in no time already had 3 pairs and was living in them!

We are super hyped for Jem! What was the creation process like?

I have wanted to create a print for Lucy and Yak for sooooo long it is honestly a dream! The design is a continuation of my exploration of Blub.

Blub is a shape I organically created throughout my study of print and sculpture. It is a squidgy abstract form that originates from my love of earlobes and eggs and has taken on many different forms throughout the past 6 years including bean bags, paint pots and many, many metres of printed fabric all to create many bright and squashy immersive spaces.

Jem turned out to be a colourful and fun boilersuit! I chose the name Jem because it is the name of my best pal. This year has been a crazy one for her but the boilersuit comes out marking just over year since she changed her name and began her transition, I love her so much, she is my sister. She is the Elsa to my Anna, the Racheal to my Phoebe, the Carrie to my Samantha and most importantly the Romy to my Michelle.

Sounds amazing! And since you are known for your installations, there will be one in the Brighton store?

Yess!! I will be transforming the store into a hand printed wonderland full of squishy bean bags and Iced Gems. Look out for Insta Live this weekend!

We honestly cannot wait! Where else can we see your work?

My work is always pop up that you can mainly see at festivals and around Brighton and London. Places I have previously been are Brainchild festival, Knee Deep festival, The Royal Academy of Art, Pop up Brighton, and some very exciting ones this year that I can't reveal as of yet. To be honest I travel around putting blubs wherever people will let me. To see where I am popping up throughout the summer you can check my insta! @sophmoly_iiish
