Embracing Sustainability in the Re:Yak Studio

Upcycling secondhand Yaks with seamstress Cat

At Lucy & Yak, sustainability is more than a buzzwordโ€”it is a core value that drives our initiatives. One of these is the Re:Yak Studio, a creative space in Barnsley where our expert seamstress, Cat, works her magic. This blog post delves into the heart of our Re:Yak Studio, highlighting Catโ€™s incredible work and explaining how you can get involved in our mission to keep products out of landfills and in circulation.

Meet Cat: The Heart of Re:Yak Studio

Cat is the cornerstone of our Re:Yak Studio. Her expertise in sewing, repairing, and upcycling transforms returned Yaks into gorgeous one-off pieces. With every stitch, she breathes new life into clothing that might otherwise end up in a landfill. Her dedication to sustainability and craftsmanship is evident in every piece she handles.

"I have worked in various roles at Lucy & Yak for four years. The ethical and sustainable choices that Lucy & Yak makes, especially the Re:Yak PreLoved programme, inspire me. Iโ€™ve always enjoyed sewing, repairing and crafting. My main crafty skills include sewing, crocheting, darning and embroidery, which I thoroughly enjoy teaching people. While running craft workshops and chatting with people, I noticed an opportunity to offer lovingly repaired and upcycled pieces, which led to Lucy & Yak encouraging me to set up the Re:Yak Studio." โ€“ Cat

The Magic of the Re:Yak Studio

The Re:Yak Studio is a hub of imagination and sustainability. Located in Barnsley, this is where returned Yaks are sorted, assessed, and given a new lease on life. Cat expertly repairs and upcycles these items, which are resold in our PreLoved collection across our stores.
