If you’re familiar with our story, you’ll know that we’ve always had a special little (okay, actually kinda huge) place in our hearts for dungarees. Before our wonderful customers helped us become the company we are today, the Lucy & Yak dream involved a wandering couple and a plan to sell 30 pairs of dungas online; hoping that someone, somewhere would buy them.
As if by magic, we’d caught the bug (unfortunately, it is contagious) and dungarees became our life. At the time, we could only imagine seeing so many of you rock our dungas and look so incredible in them (*wink*), so now we want to explain why we chose dungarees in the first place. This is why we think dungarees are so great...
They’re super duper comfortable
We’re all about promoting the comfort movement here at Lucy & Yak, which is why we’re so invested in our dungarees. However, we can’t take credit for bringing this item of clothing into your lives because these bad boys have been around for centuries (yep, really). Whether you know them as overalls, bib-and-brace overalls or dungarees, this type of garment can be traced back to the 1700s. Let’s be honest, though, the 1990s knew how to rock this look more than anyone else! From the MC Hammer pants, to the baggy jumpers and the oversized signature style, we just loved the comfort that came with this era. Yet, we couldn’t help but notice that as the ‘90s came to a close and Justin Timberlake shaved off his hair noodles, the high street dungas became more form-fitting and uncomfortable. Modern-day dungarees have since left the realm of comfort and tried to be something they’re not. We’re not about that life. We’re bringing oversized back, baby.
They’re perfectly retro (but with a modern twist)
It’s no secret that we’re a little bit obsessed with vintage fashion (could you tell?). We love the nostalgic feelings that retro items provide, and we can’t get enough of standing out from the crowd. That’s one of the many reasons why we love dungas so much. No matter what fabric you choose, what length you choose, or even if you choose a dungaree dress, you just know that you’re going to make a statement. This garment can be dressed up or dressed down according to your own tastes and style so that you can just do you. You can add a good ol’ paisley shirt into the mix to pump up your vintage vibe, or you could don a Game of Thrones slogan t-shirt to prove that you really are ready for winter to come. The choice is yours, and that’s what’s so fun.
Our aim is to cater for anyone and everyone
One of our biggest goals in life is to make fashion as inclusive as possible because we know that our customers come in all shapes and sizes - which is why we love you guys so much and aim to get you involved as much as possible! That’s also the reason why we love dungarees so much. You don’t have to be a certain size to fit into them, you don’t have to be a certain shape to wear them, and we most definitely don’t care about the numbers on the inside label. Because they are breathable and wearable, most dungarees with have the stretch and the movement to cater for numerous body sizes and shapes. Our aim at Lucy & Yak is to create flattering dungas and clothing for men and women of all sizes because we just know you’ll all look pretty darn amazing, and we have numerous products that go up to a size 18-20. We’re working as hard as we can on bringing in larger sizes, so that anyone and everyone can get their comfy on in our dungas.
Of course, we may seem a little biased, but dungarees really do provide the best of both worlds. They not only offer a cool new way to team up your extensive collection of ‘90s sweatshirts and band tees, but they also provide the fit and the comfort that you want from everyday wear. If that’s not all you want in life, we really don’t know what is.
