New updates about living wages

Hear from Lucy and Chris on their latest podcast episode, as they discuss the complexities of wages in garment supply chains and provide an update on what the business is doing in this space. Highlights include:

• An update on the work behind the scenes, researching the best external organisations to collaborate with.

• How Lucy and Chris have built up trusting relationships with each of our partner factories, allowing for honest and open conversations.

• Why it’s important to be confident and certain in what we say and ensure never to mislead anyone.

“We are always looking at inventive ways to make sure our workers have better than the norm” - Chris

Did you know...?

We have a dedicated HR and Compliance Manager on the ground in India. They support each factory to ensure all labour laws are adhered to and, importantly, that workers have a voice and are listened to.

We only work with factories which have a full, independent and up-to-date ethical audit.

All of our suppliers are members of Sedex, a leading platform for sharing ethical and sustainability practices.

Team trip to India

Lucy, Chris and members of the Production Team visit India twice a year, to catch up with all our suppliers.

The team headed out at the end of 2022 for a tour of each factory and had the chance to talk to the workers who make our clothes.

To strengthen our commitment to the highest standards in our supply chain, we launched our new Responsible Sourcing Policy and shared this accordingly with our suppliers. The requirements laid out in the policy are based on internationally recognised labour standards, including the ETI’s Base Code which is outlined below:

1: Employment is freely chosen

2: Freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining are respected

3: Working conditions are safe and hygienic

4: Child labour shall not be used

5: Living wages are paid

6: Working hours are not excessive

7: No discrimination is practised

8: Regular employment is provided

9: No harsh or inhumane treatment is allowed

Our new policy runs alongside our existing Modern Slavery Policy and Anti-Bribery and Corruption Policy.

We’ve also launched a new Environmental Policy

We’ve been busy rolling out our new Environmental Policy across the business. Sustainable practices have been at the forefront of how we’ve been operating since L&Y began and this policy serves to strengthen our commitment to protecting the environment, conserving natural resources and conducting business in an even more environmentally responsible and efficient manner.

As part of our new policy, we’re currently working with an external company on proactively assessing our overall environmental footprint. This means we’ll be able to accurately track our improvements year on year and share these results with you.
