The Fior Di Loto Foundation opened in 2003, with a mission to bring education to the girls of Pushkar, India.
Since then thousands of girls have been educated at their school and college, going on to university becoming doctors, lawyers, physiotherapists and more.

In 2018 our founders Lucy and Chris visited the Fior Di Loto school where they met its founders Deepu and Mara and saw first hand the incredible work they do for the Pushkar community. They saw how the foundation provides an education for girls, food to families in need, fund life changing surgeries for people in the local area and even out of hours sewing lessons for local women.
Over the last 7 years, Lucy & Yak has funded 1,291 years of education and it’s all down to your support.

This October our team travelled to Pushkar to meet the girls, catch up with the teachers, serve the girls lunch and joined in with their classes. Arriving first thing in the morning, they were welcomed by the girls, teachers and faculty to a song and a sea of pink uniforms.
They caught up with Varsha, a teacher at the school, who was one of the first girls to attend the school back in 2003. Varsha continued on to the Fior Di Loto college, then to university and now acts as a director of the school. In Varsha’s words ‘a house, car and money - they’re all temporary things. But an education lasts a lifetime.’

Every morning the Fior Di Loto buses bring the girls to and from the school from the surrounding villages of Pushkar. Pinky tells us how the buses are a lifeline for the school - they mean that regardless of the economic status of each family, their daughter can get there.
The days start with assembly, as the girls and teachers congregate for morning prayers, meditation and listen as one of the girls reads out the daily news. The classrooms fill up as lessons begin: Hindi, maths, environmental science, English, Sanskrit, computer science. Before long the smell of fresh dahl wafts through the school, as the girls sit down to enjoy their dahl and hot chapatis. They run and leap around the playground, squeals of joy fill the air. Before long it’s time to return to their classrooms for afternoon lessons before school ends and the Fior Di Loto buses take them back safely home.

So this Black Friday we’re doing it all again. We’re doing Black Friday differently. We’re sending girls to school.
