Monique Aimee x Lucy & Yak

From leaf peeping to Lucy & Yak

Grab a coffee and let’s take a walk.

Meet Monique Aimee, a Boston-based illustrator and multidisciplinary artist inspired by folk art, quilt blocks and New England charm. Her limited edition collection with us starts at her favourite time of year.

“I grew up in New England and feel so lucky to live here, especially this ‘leaf peeping’ time of year.”

“My collection is inspired by fall here in the Boston area. Specifically, walking around my neighborhood with a coffee in hand, admiring the cozy homes and changing foliage while listening to the crunch of leaves underfoot.”

Those houses are a big part of it. Monique often stops to snap photos of them to draw later and you’ll spot one on the Noa tee.

Away from the screen, she’s usually creating something with her hands.

“While most of my career consists of digital illustration, I have a deep love for fiber arts that I continue to return to. I’ve explored chainstitch embroidery, rug tufting, knitting, cross-stitch, and the list goes on.”

All that crafting found its way to her first every repeat pattern.

“Illustrating a pattern feels a bit like piecing quilt blocks together by moving colors and shapes around (and doing quite a bit of math) until the pattern feels balanced.”

And this one’s been a long time coming. Monique’s designs paired with our organic cottons could not be a better match this autumn.

“This is the first time I get to see my work as a clothing collection and I could not be more excited!”

“I love the playful fabric patterns and color palettes that I’ve seen at Lucy & Yak and I am very excited to see my artwork included as a collection, and for this collection to feel so ‘me.’”

And the piece she’ll be reaching for first?

“I’m going to live in the boxy t-shirt!”
