As a L&Y customer that likes similar styles (Ashby, Addison), I figured I would give the Tate jean in black denim a try since I dig a wide leg. I emailed customer service to confirm measurements and ordered a UK 12 (same size I wear in Ashby & Addison - I am a street UK 14).
Pros: Length was good, a true 30" inseam. Denim weight felt nice. Wide leg is not too wide, appropriate size.
Cons: These are described as a high rise pant; they are not. They are a mid-rise, designed to sit not at the bellybutton, but below. I am quite long in the rise, but pear shaped (11" difference between waist and hip), so the denim kept trying to move up to my natural waist, giving me terrible camel toe and an even worse wedgie. The pleats on these pants are not forgiving and this style is quite tight through the hip compared to other L&Y trousers with front pleating (read: uncomfortable). The waist measurement on these was appropriate (and similar to Addison) so going up a size would not fix this rise issue entirely, but probably would alleviate some of the stress through the hip. The elastic in the waistband is more restrictive than both Addison and Ashby.
These pants would probably be better for those who are fans of styles like Delores but want a shorter rise. They are not good as a "curvy" style.
For me, these are a return. I can see why some folks mentioned they run small. It's likely due to the issues I've mentioned here. I'm hemming and hawing about reordering in a 14.
