GOTS Organic Cotton
This year Lucy & Yak have been re-certified following our audit for GOTS and GRS, with the addition of OCS (Organic Content Standard).
The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibres. As well as the environmental requirements for the standard, social criteria, including working conditions and labour standards are assessed and verified throughout the supply chain, backed up by independent third-party certification. As Lucy & Yak’s ethical behaviours set the standard we expect of our supply base, we also believe it is essential to be certified ourselves.Certification of a product is more than just a label; it is a symbol of trust and transparency in the textile supply chain – from field to finished goods in stores.
The Organic Content Standard (OCS) is a global standard used to verify organically grown raw materials which are used in products. L&Y products which carry the OCS label will have been verified to contain organic materials by a third party.
Bio degradable
Cotton is a natural fibre
Third party certification
All our organic cotton is GOTS certified.
Protects water & soil
No harmful pesticides used
Gives farmers more control
Allowing them to earn more
GOTs Certified Organic Cotton Waffle
Loose and textured weave, which means it has space to gather excess moisture helping to regulate body temperature due to its reduced surface contact with the skin. The fabric is also absorbent and breathable – especially in 100% cotton form. Due to its relatively loose weave structure it is also flexible, so drapes well and is fast to dry.
GRS Recycled Polyester
Good quality fabric
Recycled polyester is just as strong as virgin ones.
Less energy needed
Virgin polyester is made from fossil fuels, so it's not great for the planet.
Made from recycled plastic bottles
Keeping them away from landfill and our oceans.
Third Party certification
The GRS label guarantees recycled fabrics with additional environmental & social criteria.
Virgin polyester is harmful to the environment as it uses fossils fuels. Recycled polyester is made by melting down used plastic bottles and spinning them into yarn. It's still a synthetic fibre, but one that already existed, and has a much lower environmental impact. Certification is important because it is known in the industry that some factories use brand new plastic bottles instead of used ones, which is more destructive to our planet. Check for the GRS logo.
Kinder to the environment
Made from Sustainably sourced trees
Closed loop process
Super soft hand feel
Third Party certification
LENZING™ ECOVERO™ is the viscose fiber that set a new standard for a more eco-responsible viscose fabric in the fashion industry.
Compared with generic viscose, its production has a substantially smaller environmental footprint.
Closed loop recycling
Dead-stock fabric left over from other brands.
Less energy needed
Saves energy, as it makes use of fabric that already exists.
Reduce waste
Around 92 MM tons of textiles end up in landfills each year.
Still amazing quality
Long lasting
Linen is a durable, versatile and strong fabric.
Flax is resilient
It can grow in poor soil, using far less water than cotton.
Made from Flax
Flax is an extremely versatile plant.
Traditionally every part of the plant is used, so nothing goes to waste.
Timeless design
Extra soft hand feel
Bamboo is breathable and has antibacterial qualities.
Naturally pest resistant
Bamboo doesn’t need pesticides to grow.
If managed and treated responsibly there is no need for the use of chemicals, which can be damaging to people and the environment.
Sustainable fibre
Bamboo needs little irrigation to grow as it uses rainwater.
Improves soil quality
Has a strong root system which stores carbon, improving soil health & biodiversity.
Long lasting
Hemp fabric has an incredible strength.
Over time, the fibres will soften but won’t degrade or pill making Items last decades if proper care is taken.
Naturally pest resistant
Hemp is naturally pest resistant so it can be grown organically without the aid of chemicals.
Even more breathable
Hemp is breathable and lightweight, yet very durable. We've blended our hemp with cotton to make it softer than its natural form.
Kinder to the environment
Hemp is a densely and quickly growing plant. It uses minimal water and is capable of capturing other carbon emissions from the environment making it a carbon negative raw material.
