Introducing our new podcast: Ey Up!

Introducing our new podcast: Ey Up!

If you’re reading this, hopefully you’re familiar with a format we’ve been experimenting with over the past several weeks — our Instagram Live series, Listen Up! — where our very own Lucy and Chris have been taking to the platform to wax lyrical on all things fashion and ethics with industry experts and friends of Lucy & Yak.

It’s wonderful to hear how much you’ve been enjoying these sessions so far, and all your lovely feedback has helped us to figure out that we’d like to evolve it into a new format... enter our brand new podcast, Ey Up!

For our first episode, Lucy and Chris met with Sustainability and Ethics Lecturer Winkate Bendig, giving an insight into who Lucy & Yak are, how we got started, and what’s really important to us as a brand.

If you’re after a taster of what’s in store before settling down and tuning in, here’s our round-up of our favourite moments from this, our very first episode:

  • One of the best ways to improve a society or community is to create well paid and meaningful jobs, and to implement good education. If you can inject this into any kind of society, that society can flourish. This became one of the key founding pillars of the brand; Chris and Lucy knew that if they could establish and implement their business in this way, they could create a brand that would enforce positive, impactful change for suppliers, manufacturers, and employees alike.
  • A potentially little-known fact is that neither Lucy nor Chris come from a fashion background. Although Lucy studied fashion in university, she had no experience of running or starting a brand, and she credits this lack of experience as one of the main reasons why she and Chris have always done things a little differently, and even taken some risks along the way. If you’re acutely aware of the industry, you’re also aware of all the risks involved and of all the things that can go wrong — but if you approach it with a fresh and unbiased perspective, you have a total lack of fear or self-doubt!
  • Lucy and Chris also enjoyed reminiscing about the fabulous Ismail; owner of Brothers Collection in India, and one of the main reasons why we do what we do, and how we do it! Ismail’s energy and outlook on life helps to remind us that we can do things differently and be successful, that we can pay everyone fairly and improve their lives, and that we can change the world.

If you can’t get enough of Winkate’s amazing vibe (and we certainly can’t) you’ll be equally delighted to learn that you’ll be hearing more from her in our second episode — keep an eye on our Instagram and make sure you’re signed up to our e-mail newsletters for more details on when this will be available! In the meantime, you can now listen to our first episode in all its glory via Anchor.fm and Spotify (all other favourite podcasting platforms coming soon — stay tuned for updates!)

For those in our community who’d prefer to access the session via video, with subtitles, then we’ve got just the thing for you: check it out on our YouTube channel!

If you’re missing the Live format, then never fear; going forwards we will be hosting each episode live as a Zoom Webinar, and inviting you to get involved by asking Lucy, Chris, and their special guest(s) any and all questions you may have on the topic they’re covering.

But what if I can’t make the live? we hear you ask. Well, we will be uploading every episode in podcast and subtitled video format just as soon as we’ve made any necessary edits to the audio and video. We’re super excited to have the opportunity to record our podcast in a more interactive and engaging way, and we hope that uploading in multiple formats will mean that Ey Up! is super accessible for everyone.

We’re just bubbling with excitement at this new venture, and we can’t wait to have you along for the ride. Are there any topics you’d love to hear about, or any guests that we simply must invite? Contact us and let us know! In the meantime, pop the kettle on, get comfy in your favourite chair, and enjoy season one, episode one of Ey Up!
