Lucy & Yak does World Mental Health Day

Is self-care becoming just another item on your to-do list? Your self-care routine might be overly packed and expensive—think massages, manicures, workouts, and social time all crammed into your calendar. That's adding stress, not finding peace.

Self-care is all about slowing down, resting, recharging, and finding balance. Thursday 10th October is World Mental Health Day. This year, the Lucy & Yak team have shared some of the small ways they look after themselves.

Sometimes, less really is more. ✨

Unclog your mind by writing a list

"I feel all over the place if I don't have one, just helps get stuff out of my brain and makes sure I don't forget anything.”

Kelsey, Customer Acquisition

Start your day neat

"Making my bed in the morning, completing a small task in the morning starts the day positively and it's nice getting into a made bed after a long day!”

Anna, Creative Product

Take a break

"I've downloaded the BreakTimer app on my laptop to remind me to get up and take breaks at work! I try not to snooze the reminders and use the time to stretch or look at the sea."

Xan, Developer

Take all of your breaks
"Actually use your annual leave."

Rebecca, Customer Retention

Wear comfortable clothes
Wearing something comfy always sets me up for a good day! Whether it’s a work day where I’m moving around a lot, or spending long periods of time at my desk, tight clothes digging into me or restricting my movement are a huge no!

Jess, Social Team

Colour your calendars for clarity
"Different colour calendars for everyone. I have separate Google calendars, one for me (flamingo pink) and one for my cat (avocado green) so I can easily see his medication reminders or vet appointments, instead of struggling to remember if I've missed something important."

Reni, Copy and Content Manager

Make meal planning simpler
"We've committed to Gousto [a home delivery meal kit service], so easy not having to think of a meal and it literally tells you how to cook, it's genius!"

Natasha, Community Marketing

Get crafty
"Making time to draw or paint allows me to switch off from the rest of the chaos and express myself."

Joanna, Retail

Dip into nature
"Open water swimming! I'd got it as a bucket list thing to try and have since made the effort to go once a week - the silence of the lake and the social aspect that doesn't require conversation gives me a chance to reset whilst not feeling isolated."

Beth, Quality Control

Get your steps in
"Walking to work in the morning, no matter what the weather! A chance to set my brain, my mood and be ready to start each day with a fresh mindset."

Sally, Retail

Take a moment
"Five minutes of meditation/breathing to sort through my thoughts at the end of the day. This helps me to pinpoint common denominators and rationalise worries."

Cazz, Brand Marketing

Ace your Zzz
"Getting 8 hours of sleep, every night! Making sleep a priority rather than an afterthought."

Lucinda, Finance
