Abby Bible on Style Without Limits: Bold Prints, Comfort, and Confidence

Hi! My name is Abby Bible; I’m 27 years old and have lived in New York City for five years. My love for fashion has been brewing since childhood in a small Florida town. I remember experimenting with skirts over jeans in middle school and even wearing bow ties with my school-mandated collared shirts. Safe to say, my peers didn’t see the vision at that age. In high school, I started my first Instagram page “The Vintage Honeybee” as I dived into the world of pin-up fashion. Sixteen-year-old me slept in curlers, wore a petticoat, and put on a signature red lip every day. Pin-up fashion was the first size-inclusive fashion community that I found. 

Knowing how much I loved fashion, I pursued a degree in fashion marketing at the Savannah College of Art and Design. After graduation, I started my first job in fashion marketing at a women’s fashion brand, and I’ve been there ever since. In my five years of working in corporate fashion, I slowly grew my own personal social media in my spare time. Every night after work and every weekend, I film content and try to be as present as possible. This has flourished into an amazing community filled with like-minded individuals. What started as a fun way to document my pin-up outfits in high school has grown into a page I’m really proud of.

Social media can be toxic, but I always aim to make my corner of the internet as positive and inclusive as possible. Most of my content is about fashion, life in New York, and body positivity. Growing up, I never had someone that looked like me to look up to. I aim to hopefully be that for someone else. Unfortunately, size-inclusive fun fashion is still hard to find, so I want to help other plus-size folks find unique pieces that excite them to step outside society’s fashion expectations for bigger bodies.

I definitely think my style varies from day to day. It’s fun to wake up and decide who I want to be for the day or what I want to evoke. I consistently love to include bold colors, prints, materials and shapes in my outfits, so you’ll rarely find me in an all-black outfit! 

My number 1 rule: completely ignore the size on a tag. Focus on the material and the cut of clothes that will work for your body and be comfortable. Many times, I’ve worn items in a size large, even though I’m a size 3X/4X. As long as you like how it looks and feels, that’s all that matters. I always gravitate towards statement pieces in fun shapes and colors, so I often have to remind myself I need to buy basics too. I will always be a dress girl through and through because they’re just so easy. Moving to the north, I struggled with learning how to dress myself in layers. Five years later, I’ve found what works for me.

I was inspired by all the colors in the prints, as you can probably tell. I loved pulling the colors through the outfit by using complimentary colored accessories and playing with different fabrics. The pink sweater was actually crocheted by my fiancé Kyle's mother as my birthday present, and I’ve been dying to wear it! I love how the pink ties so well with the pants, and the open back is just a showstopper. Using those one-of-a-kind meaningful pieces makes the outfit so special and unique to you while using pieces accessible to everyone. 

Living in New York, I always have to dress for a busy day on the go. So, I have been loving ballet flats just like everyone else in the world right now. They elevate and feminize every look while being comfortable enough to walk miles in. I like to be careful not to wear anything that’ll overstimulate me when I inevitably become a bag lady juggling several bags I have to schlep home. So many of my outfits are quite simple in terms of the pieces, but I like to let the outfit shine through accessories and colors. 

All of these outfits feel very true to my everyday style. These are pieces I can easily wear to my corporate 9-5 job and fun weekend activities with friends. They’re simple enough to wear anywhere but bold enough to be true to me. They can be easily styled as the season transitions into winter with coats, turtlenecks, chunky sweaters, and boots. 

My fiancé and I are planning a trip to Amsterdam and Copenhagen, which I think will be perfect for these pieces. They’re all so easily styled and versatile that they’re the perfect travel items you can wear multiple days in a variety of ways. For some people, the bold patterns may be a bit much, but I recommend choosing one color in the print that can be pulled out and woven through the outfits in your accessories, which makes them way less intimidating!

Life is too short to wear boring clothes, but the days are too long to wear uncomfortable ones. I especially love that Lucy and Yak is size-inclusive! Access to unique fashion shouldn’t be limited by the size of your waist.
