At Lucy & Yak, our mission is to promote a way of sourcing, producing and doing business that positively impacts People & Planet.

We are committed to driving responsible and sustainable production, that upholds the rights and wellbeing of the people who make our clothes and respects and protects the planet around us. Essentially, we are working to build an ethical supply chain where chemicals, waste and carbon emissions are reduced, and where the labour rights of those who make our Yaks are respected.

We know that in order to make significant progress on this journey, we need to partner with leading organisations who can support us in achieving the high standards that we set for ourselves.

Fair Wear is a multi-stakeholder initiative that advances workers’ rights across global supply chains by enabling human rights and environmental due diligence to become part of everyday business practice. Their vision is one we strongly align with: a world where workers’ rights are realised, power imbalances in global supply chains are rebalanced, and responsible business is built into everyday decision-making.

All supply chain actors, from workers and factories to brands, civil society and others play an active role in meaningful human rights and environmental due diligence. When done well, this goes beyond reducing risk and creates lasting improvements in workers’ lives.

Lucy & Yak are part of a working group which consists of CSR teams from small-medium sized UK brands who come together to share knowledge on ethical and sustainable topics. Frequent meetings provide an incredibly useful forum for everyone to keep up to date on emerging developments and any industry challenges. Each representative is able to openly discuss their ideas, present examples of good practice and share resources among similar sized brands. This openness and collaboration allow us to identify where our combined leverage can lead to positive change throughout the industry.

Fair Wear is an independent organisation that works with brands, factories, and workers to improve working conditions in garment factories. They focus on things like ensuring safe workplaces, fair wages, reasonable working hours, and that workers’ voices are being heard.

Becoming a member means we’ll be strengthening our existing ethical program by committing to Fair Wear’s Code of Labour Practices and opening ourselves up to independent checks and ongoing improvement - not just saying the right things, but being held accountable.
